Maile (Fragrant Vine) is a native vine found in mesic to wet forests and known for its shiny green leaves and sweet fragrance. It produces small greenish flowers and slender stems used in lei-making. Maile twines through vegetation, forming dense tangles. It symbolizes love and respect and reflects a healthy forest environment (Bishop Museum, Native Plants Hawaii, DLNR).
