ʻŌlelo Noʻeau are traditional Hawaiian proverbs that convey cultural wisdom, values, and observations about life and nature.
KMR ALAKA'I
The ʻalalā (Hawaiian Crow) is a socially complex and intelligent bird native to Hawaiʻi, known for its dark plumage, thick bill, and wide variety of vocalizations, some resembling human sounds. It is omnivorous, feeding on fruits, insects, and carrion, and plays a vital role in dispersing seeds of native plants. Once common in upland forests, the ʻalalā was declared extinct in the wild in 2002 due to habitat loss, introduced predators, and disease. Conservation and captive breeding efforts continue to restore wild populations (Wikipedia, Pacific Rim Conservation, Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project).
